As a life-long Virginia resident, I have a strong connection to our community and the people who live here.  I am grateful that my profession allows me to develop close relationships with individuals and families while I help them plan for their future.

My Background

I had the pleasure of attending William & Mary in Williamsburg for my undergraduate degree, and that town will always be a source of fond memories.  While I was in college, I studied Psychology and Business Management, participated in theater and loved to travel any time the opportunity presented itself.  During my time at William & Mary, I planned for my future as a lawyer and knew that this would be a profession that would allow me to make a difference in people’s lives.  I then pursued my law degree and graduated from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach.

During my time in law school, I was immediately drawn to estate planning.  An area of law that centers around helping people, especially during times of crisis, was exactly how I wanted to use my law degree.  While I was in law school, I became a certified mediator and helped families try to come to reasonable agreements without the involvement of the courts.

Having a degree in Psychology helped me understand that being a lawyer is not simply reciting laws and coming up with strategies, but also understanding goals, motivations, fears and conflict and how those issues impact people in different ways.  Upon graduating law school, I wanted to learn more about the complexities of trusts, wills, administration, tax issues and elder law, so I decided to seek a post-doctorate degree in Estate Planning.  I graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Florida with a Master of Laws degree and returned to Virginia.

Since then, I have spent my career practicing estate planning and elder law in Virginia, focusing primarily on revocable and irrevocable trust planning, wills, special needs planning, trust and estate administration, tax planning, business succession planning and asset protection.

Giving Back to the Community

I love having opportunities to participate in our community and have enjoyed working with many local businesses and non-profits at events throughout the years.  I have spent time volunteering with St. Mary’s Home, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, the Norfolk Environmental Commission, the Community Mediation Center, the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center, FORkids Shelter and The Dwelling Place.  I have also enjoyed participating in the ODU Special Olympics Little Feet Meet, Wills for Heroes, the Legal Food Frenzy of Virginia, and as a part of a team for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the American Cancer Society Making Strides and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk.

In My Free Time

I live in Virginia Beach and spend much of my free time with my husband and dog.  I love to read, swim, write, cook and watch movies.  I also volunteer as an elected Board member for my neighborhood HOA.
