Scott N. Alperin is the principal attorney at Alperin Law. He has extensive experience working with individuals, families and businesses, and his practice encompasses the areas of estate planning, elder law, estate and trust administration, asset protection planning, disability and special needs planning, Medicaid, Veteran’s benefits, long-term care planning, commercial and residential real estate transactions, tax-deferred exchanges and business law. Mr. Alperin is an Estate Planning Law Specialist, which is the only American Bar Association-accredited designation for attorneys who have demonstrated a high level of professionalism, skill and knowledge in the area of estate planning. He is also an Accredited Estate Planner®, which is a designation bestowed upon estate planning professionals who have the highest standards of knowledge, skill, ethical conduct and experience in estate planning. His attorney peers have rated Mr. Alperin as “AV Preeminent” through Martindale Hubbell, indicating that he has been judged by his fellow attorneys as having the highest degree of competency and ethical standards in the practice of law. In addition, he is an accredited attorney for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Mr. Alperin is a past president of the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the premier organization of elder law and special needs law attorneys in Virginia whose mission is to educate, inspire and empower legal representation of elderly and disabled clients and their families. He is also an active member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. Mr. Alperin is an adjunct professor at William & Mary Law School, where he teaches a course on elder law. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. He also maintains an association with Jewish Family Service of Tidewater, with which he was previously a board member and now serves as on its Personal Affairs Management Committee. He has also been involved as a board member and advocate of Vanguard Landing, an intentional special needs community for developmentally disabled adults proposed for location in Virginia Beach. He is a past president of the Hampton Roads chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, and is an active member of the Hampton Roads Estate Planning Council. In addition, he is a member of the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association.

Born and raised in Norfolk, Mr. Alperin is a 1986 graduate of Norfolk Academy. In 1990, he graduated from the University of Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French Language and Literature. In 1994, he graduated magna cum laude from the University Of Baltimore School Of Law, earning his Juris Doctor Degree. He was a member of Law Review and served as the Associate Articles Editor of the University of Baltimore Law Forum. Following his graduation from law school, Mr. Alperin was appointed as Law Clerk to the Honorable Glenn T. Harrell, Jr. of the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland.

Scott is admitted to practice law in all State Courts in Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia. In addition, he is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar, the Maryland State Bar, the Georgia State Bar, and the Virginia Beach Bar Association. When he is not helping his clients, he enjoys traveling, mountain biking, fishing and spending his time with his wife Lori, their two children, Noah and Zoey as well as the furriest member of the family, their Bichon Frise Oliver.
