A Prosecutor. A lawyer in Private Practice. A Circuit Court Judge. Senior Counsel.
I have had a wonderful career!
Until recently, I was a lifelong resident of the Chicago area. Both of my parents grew up in the city and raised my sister and me to love everything the “Windy City” had to offer. I’m a diehard White Sox and Bears fan.
I left the area for college to attend the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where I majored in Political Science and my fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau. Knowing that I wanted to practice law back in the Chicago area, I returned home to attend Loyola University School of Law. After passing the Bar, I began prosecuting juveniles and adults charged with misdemeanors and felonies. There is no better way to become familiar with, and comfortable in, the courts. In 1985 I joined the law firm of Lindner, Speers, and Reuland, P.C. in Aurora, Illinois and began a ten-year journey through the civil law areas. I had an eclectic mixture of estate planning, real estate, and adoption clients, and enjoyed of all it equally.
In 1995 I was fortunate to be selected to serve as an Associate Circuit Court Judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit. I elevated to full Circuit Court Judge in 2006 after a grueling, hard-fought primary election. During the 21 years that I served as a Judge, I had the honor of sitting in three different counties and in every division of the Court. It was the opportunity of a lifetime and I have tons of wonderful memories and stories.
My wife, Carol, and I were blessed with one child, our daughter, Emily. A much more independent child than myself, Emily left home at 18 to attend the University of Alabama where she met her future husband, Brandon, who called Norfolk home. They eventually married and set up house in Norfolk, so it was an easy decision when I retired from the Bench as to where Carol and I would spend our time…Norfolk! We moved here in 2016, bought a boat, fell in love with the area, and failed at the first attempt at retirement. I have been fortunate to find Alperin Law, where I am once again able to help people plan their estates and attain well-deserved peace of mind.
My outside interest now include spending time with our new grandson, Brooks Thomas, along with time enjoyed on the boat, in the pool, or on the beach, all pastimes not easily enjoyed in Chicago!
